The Bataan Memorial Death March Marathon is a challenging loop-style race through the high desert terrain of White Sands Missile Range. Most of the course is dirt road or trail, with some sections being sandy, dusty, and all-around tough desert terrain. The course is mostly flat to mile 7, where runners are then confronted with a 6-mile 1200' climb. The last 13 miles are mostly downhill or flat with only a couple gentle rolling inclines.

The Duke City Marathon is the premier and longest-running road race in New Mexico. The course is an out & back along the Passo Del Bosque Trail (paved) with a start/finish at Civic Plaza in downtown Albuquerque.

The Shiprock Marathon has become the largest marathon in the Four Corners and is the preeminent fitness event on the Navajo Nation. The course is a point-to-point road race from Red Valley (6,000' ASL) to Shiprock (4,900' ASL) with 1100' of downhill running. Excellent for a PR. The course mostly runs on Route 13 and passes by the spectacular Shiprock- the core of an ancient volcano- which is visible during most of the run.

Rating Course Description
0 to 1 These courses are mostly downhill and very fast – excellent for PR/BQ’s.
1 to 2 A rating of “1” means the course is flat; closer to “2” you can expect small hills.
2 to 3 The course has moderate hills.
3 to 4 The course has substantial hills.
4 to 5 Very difficult course usually with technical terrain.
