Why run Richmond? It’s the little things that add up. A great scenic course that takes you through some of Richmond’s most historic neighborhoods, culminating in a downhill finish in the heart of downtown. On-course support featuring live bands, DJs, spirit groups and Party Zones guaranteed to give you that extra burst of energy. Unique features, including junk food stops and wet washcloths along the course, as well as hot pizza and a complimentary massage to greet you at the finish line.

This is one of the best of the 24 marathons I have done to date. The crowd support is great, the course is relatively flat and easy compared to the others I have experienced. Aid stations had plenty of supplies and the weather even cooperated. Perhaps the best part is the fast downhill finish onto Brown's Island. All-in-all, Richmond is a great mid-sized marathon and I'm looking forward to running it again next year.

I've ran roughly 30 marathons over the past 10 years or so and Richmond remains one of my favorites. The organization and logistics are absolutely stellar and are on-par with Boston or New York. The course is great in that it isn't totally flat and has some hills that allow your legs to do something different than the standard 'marathon shuffle'. All aspects of the race were perfect again this year and I'm happy to give it a 5 out of 5.

I've ran NYC 6 times and decided to signup for Richmond this year as a bit of a change. Several members of my run club gave it stellar recommendations, so I gave it whirl. I must say that the race was awesome and I may give up NYC for good. It has all the fixings of a large big-city race, but you get to avoid all the crowds and actually spread-out during the race. And Richmond has absolutely stellar organization, who knew? The volunteers were well-versed at aid stations and the start/finish flowed extremely smooth.

Thank you Richmond for the NYC substitute!
