My third rock-n-roll marathon and I won't be coming back. It seems like they can't get the basics down in terms of logistics. I seem to always have problems with parking, start line, aid stations, porta-johns, finisher's area, etc. Some parts are always outstanding, but then they drop the ball on other areas and it really seems to ruin the event. For San Diego, it was porta-johns and the mess at the finish line that others have pointed out. The race is big enough (7,500 runners) where they should have these logistics buttoned up, but something always seems to fall through the cracks.

I won't be back RNR -- sorry.

I ran RnR Nashville a few years back and had a bad experience, but I decided to give the RnR franchise a try again this year as I was in the San Diego area for work. Overall, they do quite a decent job at organization and logistics, but it seems too commercialized to me and it's like they're just out there to make money (which I guess isn't a bad thing). There's just not the personality and differentiation like other marathons in the area have.

This is my 4th Rock-n-Roll marathon and I have nothing but high praises for the race directors. It's amazing how much conformity there is between the different RNR locations -- the organization is second to none. I honestly wasn't that impressed with the course, but it was still fun and I enjoyed the weather. I heard there was a little bit of chaos at the finish line, but it seemed fine to me. (maybe I'm just used to it :)). Many thanks to the countless volunteers that helped make this event happen. Overall I had a very enjoyable experience.
