The Silverton Alpine Marathon is a loop-style race in the San Juan Mountains that follows the “Alpine Loop” jeep roads past the ghost mining towns of Howardsville, Eureka, Animas Forks and Gladstone. Note that the elevation of this course is between 9,300 and 13,000 ft. The majority of the climbing on this route is between miles 8 and 16 where runners will ascend a leg-burning 3,000 ft.
