The California International Marathon (CIM) was founded in 1983 and year-over-year continues to bring a world-class running event to the Sacramento area. The course is a very fast, point-to-point, net-downhill marathon that traces a historic route used by the gold miners during the 1849 Gold Rush. It begins at the Folsom Dam, passes through semi-rural suburbs into bustling midtown Sacramento, and has a spectacular finish in front of the California State Capitol.

A beautiful course running 26.2 miles through OC landmarks and including views of the pristine beaches of Corona del Mar, the scenic Back Bay Estuary, the Orange County Performing Arts Center, South Coast Plaza and the OC Fair & Event Center. The course has lots of declining sections in the first 5 miles with the remainder of the race mostly flat/fast.

Rating Course Description
0 to 1 These courses are mostly downhill and very fast – excellent for PR/BQ’s.
1 to 2 A rating of “1” means the course is flat; closer to “2” you can expect small hills.
2 to 3 The course has moderate hills.
3 to 4 The course has substantial hills.
4 to 5 Very difficult course usually with technical terrain.
