Burlington, VT
May 28, 2017

This is a fast and fun course; run on the city streets and along the shores of Lake Champlain. Our event is known for its community support and spectacular views. The course starts at Battery Park with views of Lake Champlain and the Adirondack Mountains, then tours Burlington’s pedestrian Marketplace, the Northern Connector, Burlington’s South End, Oakledge Park, Lake Champlain, the 'Assault on Battery', North Avenue, and finishes on the flat/downhill Burlington bike path.

Wow -- what an extremely well organized race. All of the volunteers were wonderful and it's obvious that the race directors put a lot of time and effort into making this a great marathon. The course, pre-race logistics, sign-up, everything -- was just awesome. The course is definitely one of my favs --- not too hilly, not too flat. It has a great mix of downtown, rural, and semi-urban neighborhood. Even the fan support was much better than I was expecting for a smaller race. Overall, 10 out of 10!

We had absolutely horrible weather last year, but VCM still never disappointed. If you've never ran it before, I highly recommend it. Running along Lake Champlain is awesome, the organization and logistics flow smoothly, and you gotta love the SWAG. And perhaps best of all, this one won't break the bank. There are plenty of hotels in the surrounding areas and shuttle service is usually very good.

Overall, the organization, volunteers, crowd support, expo, and race logistics are great.. I definitely need to hand it to them and give them a big 5 stars. That being said, I wasn't a fan of the course. Yes, running near the lake is definitely better than a typical out-n-back, but I found the course a little bland. I definitely wasn't a fan of the several zig-zag sections too.. they almost made me dizzy at times. Luckily the fans were able to help me out in sections though :).
